Auto Theft Steals More Than Your Car

You leave work after a grueling day at the office only to discover your car has been stolen. Your only option is to call the police and hope your car doesn't end up in Hong Kong by morning. Auto theft in the United States is on the rise. Here are the facts: Every 25 seconds a motor vehicle is stolen in the United States. After a 10-year decline in auto theft rates, rates have increased an estimated 9.4% from 1999 to 2003. Overall theft rates increased again, 1.1% between 2002 and 2003, with a total of 1.26 million vehicles reported stolen in 2003. The West experienced an increase of 5.7% while other regions actually experienced small decreases in auto theft. (*FBI Uniform Crime Reports). There were 1,260,471 auto thefts in 2003 worth over $8 billion. (*FBI) The average loss per stolen vehicle in 2003 was $7,100. (*FBI) In 2002, the odds of a vehicle being stolen were 1 in 186. More than two-thirds of all auto thefts occur at night. Only 13.1% of thefts were cleared by arrests in 2003. (*Insurance Information Institute) The recovery rate for stolen vehicles, according to the FBI, was 63% in 2003. The U.S. average comprehensive insurance premium rose 5.6 % from 1997 to 2001, the most recent data available. (*Insurance Information Institute) Carjacking accounts for 3.0 % of all motor vehicle thefts nationwide, and occurs most frequently in urban areas. 63.8 % of auto theft arrests involve people under 25-years old, and 30.4% arrested are under age 18.

Does it Matter Where I Live?

Obviously, living in urban and higher crime areas has an impact on your risk of being a victim of auto theft. Port and border cities continue to be boomtowns for the auto theft business. Of the top 25 metro areas in the nation for vehicle theft, nearly half are ports or communities with easy access to borders (*National Insurance Crime Bureau, or NICB). The NICB study compares 336 metro areas.

The top 10 metro areas with highest auto theft rates in 2003:
Modesto, CA
Phoenix-Mesa, AZ
Stockton-Lodi, CA
Las Vegas, NV-AZ
Sacramento, CA
Fresno, CA
Oakland, CA
Miami, FL
San Diego, CA
Detroit, MI

There are also city-by-city differences in auto buying habits that are reflected in the preferences of auto thieves. For example, American vehicles tend to be the auto thief's vehicles of choice in Detroit and Chicago; pickups are popular in Albuquerque, Phoenix and Houston; and Japanese models lead the most commonly stolen list in Los Angeles.

But Andy Bowdoin, the GPS genius from GPS Tech, Inc offers another highly sought after solution called AutoCop. AutoCop provides real time Auto Theft Protection, Door Unlock & Starter Disabler. This vehicle tracking system alerts AutoCop's National Control Center called LifeTrak on a real time basis of unauthorized use providing specific location of your vehicle's status and assists you in notifying police of the stolen vehicle with vehicle location detail for faster recovery. A starter disabler prevents thieves from starting your vehicle. As with Auto Cop's Basic Vehicle Tracking System, the door unlock feature is provided. You have the option to upgrade the system to include an emergency response feature that will notify LifeTrak in case of emergency. Know where your vehicle is at all times with Auto Cop.

Auto Cop Stolen Vehicle Tracking System provides anti theft vehicle tracking protection with no monthly fees and will provide the peace of mind knowing where your vehicle is at ALL times with the click of a mouse button with our internet based software, Auto Cop. With Auto Cop your Auto Cop vehicle tracking system allows you to locate your vehicle on the web in most RF geographic regions within the Auto Cop coverage area. You notify the authorities and Auto Cop of any stolen vehicle occurrence. This system will provide specific detail to vehicle location expediting quicker recovery. Additionally this system will unlock most vehicles remotely by simply calling the National Control Center 24/7.

Once again technology steps in and solves a very expensive problem.
